Six Keys to Sucessful Project Management
Written by Jody Graham
Monday, 05 November 2007

The value of project management is hard to quantify.  To a private organization, the ability to forecast and direct an initiative timely and cost effectively is a soft dollar benefit driven by the results.  To a public entity, the soft dollar benefit is overshadowed by the value of the political agenda, which is also a soft dollar gain.  In either scenario, the benefit of project management is immeasurable until the conclusion of the project at hand.

Project management is viewed as a necessity by too few organizations.  Many projects have a manager by appointment.  These project managers are secondary managers with the time cycles to afford an extra responsibility or the selection method of seeing who is paying attention, “the last person to stand up during this meeting is it”.  Both are asked to plan and implement a vision of the latest executive directive.  I wish I had any amount of currency for the times I have been offered a project with a predetermined deadline and execution path.

The ROI of Server Virtualization
Written by David Hutchison

Many organizations are under pressure to virtualize their server environments for a variety of reasons.  Although virtualizing physical server instances into virtual machines (VMs) can save money, multiple misperceptions exist as to the true savings associated with server virtualization.  Below is a list of the most common misperceptions found in our clients:

  1. Virtualization will dramatically reduce my hardware costs
  2. Virtualization will reduce my data center operating costs
  3. VMs will provide additional redundancy for my mission critical applications
  4. VMs will reduce my network costs
